Notes on the work, Smoke Clouds
A on-going series of large graphite drawings based on different historic smoke clouds. These include the Challenger Shuttle explosion, Mount St. Helens eruption, and a smoke cloud of the first book burning in Berlin. The clouds are removed from their surroundings and are floating on a white background. The smoke of these clouds holds the essence of that event, that time, that mourning. I am interested in the ephemeral nature of these clouds, dissolving into the atmosphere, leaving only traces of their past.
"January 28, 1986, Over the Atlantic Ocean", 50 x 60", graphite on paper.
